Huelva is the westernmost province of Andalusia. The capital of the same name is surrounded by two rivers, Odiel and Tinto, which both flow into the Atlantic Ocean. It is famous for being situated only a few kilometres from the beautiful beaches of Punta Umbria, or Mazagon. Among the interesting places to visit in Huelva is the Convent de la Merced in baroque style constructed in 1605 which after several earthquakes and invasions finally was transformed into a Cathedral. The pilgrimage of El Rocio is one of the most important celebrations in Huelva, a pilgrimage in honour of the Virgen del Rocio which is celebrated on the weekend of Pentecost Sunday.
Huelva has always been closely linked to mining through the mines of Rio Tinto, unique in Europe. Another attraction of the city is the good and varied cuisine of local dishes and tapas, which you can always get at a great price.
Huelva is also famous for its football team Real Club Recreativo de Huelva founded in 1889, being the oldest football club in the Iberian Peninsula. Finally we cannot forget the Doñana National Park situated at a short distance of the city and which has a large area of great ecological value gathering all kinds of flora and fauna.
